Migration Flow
A practical migration plan from Privy to Bento
This guide follows a simple sequence: export cleanly, map data correctly, then validate before cutover. No generic product pitch, just the steps your team needs.
Stage 1
Export checklist
- 1Export your contacts from Privy
Sign in to Privy, go to the contacts section, filter by status or segment if needed, and use the export option to download your subscribers as a CSV file.
- 2Export unsubscribes and SMS consent where available
If Privy lets you filter by unsubscribed or SMS opted out contacts, run a separate export so you can preserve consent and do not accidentally message people who left.
- 3Clean and prepare your CSV for Bento
Remove obvious test records, ensure each row has a valid email address, and standardize column names for fields like first name, last name, phone, and country.
- 4Import contacts into Bento and map fields
Use Bento CSV import to map email, name, phone, and any custom fields, then map segment and list columns to tags so you keep your targeting logic.
- 5Rebuild key automations in Bento
Recreate your most important Privy flows like welcome series, cart recovery, and post purchase follow ups using Bento automations and Shopify events.
Stage 2
Data portability map
Know in advance what imports directly and what may require a rebuild.
Stage 3
Validate and cut over
Treat cutover like launch QA. Validate your highest-risk paths first, then move sending traffic.

Tips
- Export all contacts, including unsubscribes, before you change anything in Privy so you always have a full backup.
- Use clear tag names based on your old Privy segments or campaigns so it is easy to understand targeting later in Bento.
- Rebuild your highest revenue flows first, then replace smaller nurture sequences once core journeys are live.
- Keep Privy installed for a short overlap so you can compare reported revenue and make sure Bento has all the data it needs.
Watchouts
- Privy email and SMS automations do not transfer automatically, so plan to rebuild important flows in Bento by hand.
- If you forget to import unsubscribes or SMS opt outs, you risk messaging people who previously opted out, which can hurt deliverability.
- Old popup designs and detailed performance reports from Privy are not included in exports, so save screenshots of top campaigns before cancelling.
