Migration Flow

A practical migration plan from Klaviyo to Bento

This guide follows a simple sequence: export cleanly, map data correctly, then validate before cutover. No generic product pitch, just the steps your team needs.

1Export from Klaviyo
2Transfer and map in Bento
3Validate and launch
Stage 1

Export checklist

  1. 1Log in to Klaviyo

Go to Klaviyo.com and log in with your credentials. Navigate to the Audience section.

  2. 2Export Profiles

Go to Audience > Lists & Segments. Select your main list and click 'Export'. Choose CSV format and include all profile properties.

  3. 3Export Segments

For each segment you want to recreate, export the members. Note the segment conditions so you can rebuild them in Bento using tags.

  4. 4Document Flows

Review your active Flows and document the triggers, timing, and email content. You'll rebuild these as Sequences and Automations in Bento.

  5. 5Export Suppression List

Go to Audience > Suppressed Profiles. Export unsubscribed and bounced contacts separately to ensure you don't email them in Bento.

Validate and cut over

Treat cutover like launch QA. Validate your highest-risk paths first, then move sending traffic.

Send a seed-list test from Bento and verify rendering, links, and tracking.
Compare list and segment counts against Klaviyo before your first live send.
Rebuild high-value automations first, then test each trigger path before cutover.
Keep Klaviyo running for a short overlap while you monitor deliverability in Bento.

Operator Notes

Klaviyo to Bento language map

Keep this open while rebuilding flows. It maps terminology and highlights what to do first during migration QA.

KlaviyoBento
  • ProfilePerson

A contact with an email address in your database

  • ListTag/Segment

Bento uses tags and segments instead of lists

  • SegmentSegment

Dynamic groups based on rules - works similarly

  • FlowSequence/Automation

Automated email sequences triggered by events

  • CampaignBroadcast

One-time email sends to a group

  • MetricEvent

Actions tracked from your website or app

  • Custom PropertyField

Custom data attached to a person

Tips

  • Export your data before making any changes to your Klaviyo account
  • Test with your own email first after importing to Bento
  • Keep Klaviyo running during the transition period
  • Rebuild your most important flows first, then migrate less critical ones

Watchouts

  • Email history does not transfer - you'll start fresh in Bento
  • Flow logic may need adjustment as Bento's automation works differently
  • Ensure suppressed contacts are imported to avoid compliance issues
