Migration Flow
A practical migration plan from VerticalResponse to Bento
This guide follows a simple sequence: export cleanly, map data correctly, then validate before cutover. No generic product pitch, just the steps your team needs.
Stage 1
Export checklist
- 1Review your lists in VerticalResponse
Sign in to VerticalResponse, go to Contacts or Lists, and clean up any old or test lists before you export.
- 2Export active contacts as CSV
From the Contacts or Lists view, choose each list you want to migrate, use the export or download option, and save the file as CSV with all available fields.
- 3Export unsubscribes and bounces
Locate the reports or suppression section in VerticalResponse and export unsubscribed and bounced addresses into a separate CSV so you can keep them suppressed in Bento.
- 4Document autoresponders and recurring campaigns
Open each autoresponder or recurring campaign in VerticalResponse and note the triggers, delays, and email content so you can rebuild them as sequences in Bento.
- 5Import lists and suppression data into Bento
Create tags in Bento that match your important lists, import your CSV files, and import unsubscribes into a suppression segment so you respect consent from day one.
Stage 2
Data portability map
Know in advance what imports directly and what may require a rebuild.
Stage 3
Validate and cut over
Treat cutover like launch QA. Validate your highest-risk paths first, then move sending traffic.

An individual subscriber or customer in your database.
- AutoresponderSequence
A timed series of emails that Bento handles as flexible sequences and automations.
- Email CampaignBroadcast
A one time email send to a defined audience.
- Signup FormForm
Forms used to capture new subscribers on your site or landing pages.
- Social PostExternal Channel
In Bento you focus on email, automations, and chat while social posting stays in your social tools.
Tips
- Export lists, unsubscribes, and bounces in separate files so it is easy to keep suppression data correct in Bento.
- Use Bento's free email validation on import to remove invalid addresses and protect deliverability.
- Rebuild your most important welcome and nurture sequences first, then migrate less critical newsletters.
- Run VerticalResponse and Bento in parallel for one or two campaigns until you are confident everything is flowing correctly.
Watchouts
- Automations and scheduled campaigns do not migrate automatically and need to be recreated in Bento.
- Email engagement history stays in VerticalResponse and will not appear in Bento reports.
- If you forget to import your unsubscribes and bounces you risk emailing people who opted out, which can hurt deliverability.
