Migration Flow

A practical migration plan from VerticalResponse to Bento

This guide follows a simple sequence: export cleanly, map data correctly, then validate before cutover. No generic product pitch, just the steps your team needs.

1Export from VerticalResponse
2Transfer and map in Bento
3Validate and launch

Stage 1

Export checklist

  1. 1Review your lists in VerticalResponse

Sign in to VerticalResponse, go to Contacts or Lists, and clean up any old or test lists before you export.

  2. 2Export active contacts as CSV

From the Contacts or Lists view, choose each list you want to migrate, use the export or download option, and save the file as CSV with all available fields.

  3. 3Export unsubscribes and bounces

Locate the reports or suppression section in VerticalResponse and export unsubscribed and bounced addresses into a separate CSV so you can keep them suppressed in Bento.

  4. 4Document autoresponders and recurring campaigns

Open each autoresponder or recurring campaign in VerticalResponse and note the triggers, delays, and email content so you can rebuild them as sequences in Bento.

  5. 5Import lists and suppression data into Bento

Create tags in Bento that match your important lists, import your CSV files, and import unsubscribes into a suppression segment so you respect consent from day one.

Tips

  • Export lists, unsubscribes, and bounces in separate files so it is easy to keep suppression data correct in Bento.
  • Use Bento's free email validation on import to remove invalid addresses and protect deliverability.
  • Rebuild your most important welcome and nurture sequences first, then migrate less critical newsletters.
  • Run VerticalResponse and Bento in parallel for one or two campaigns until you are confident everything is flowing correctly.

Watchouts

  • Automations and scheduled campaigns do not migrate automatically and need to be recreated in Bento.
  • Email engagement history stays in VerticalResponse and will not appear in Bento reports.
  • If you forget to import your unsubscribes and bounces you risk emailing people who opted out, which can hurt deliverability.
