Bounce Rate

Also known as: Email Bounce Rate

Bounce rate is the percentage of emails that could not be delivered to recipients. It shows how many addresses are invalid or blocked compared to the total you tried to send.

Bounce rate tells you how many of your emails come back instead of landing in inboxes. It covers hard bounces, like fake or closed addresses, and soft bounces, like a full mailbox or a short server issue. You look at it as a simple percentage so you can see at a glance how healthy your list is.

A high bounce rate hurts your sender reputation and makes inbox providers trust you less. If they see a lot of bad addresses they start to treat your messages as lower quality. That can lead to more emails going to spam or being blocked. Keeping this number low helps all of your other email work better.

To keep bounce rate under control, collect clean emails from the start and remove bad ones quickly. Use tools that check addresses when people sign up. Regularly clear out addresses that keep bouncing so you only email people who can actually receive your messages.
